How To Make Crispy Fried Pickles Recipe

We used store bought pickles today, but if you like your pickles can be much better if you make your own. Have you tried our refrigerator pickle recipe before? These would be absolutely to die for fried up like this. For more about preserving, growing, and gathering food, don’t miss our Foraging Minnesota page.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups pickles
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tbsp cajun seasoning
  • 2 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 2tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 4 cups canola oil

Instructions

First, Blot dry the pickles. Then combine the cornmeal, pepper, Cajun, and Italian seasonings in a bowl.

Whip the egg until it is pretty smooth then continue whipping it as you add the milk until it is all liquid. It’s important to break the egg down enough so that it is not chunky.

Line up your production line of ingredients in this order:  flour, egg and milk, then the corm meal and seasoning. Each should have its own plate or small bowl so that each pickle is easy to work with.making a fried pickles recipe

After each pickle is finished, refrigerate it for 15 minutes or so. This will help the pickles firm up and help keep the breading from falling off as you fry them.

While the pickles are in the refrigerator, pour the canola oil in a large pot and heat it until it pops when you drip water on it. Take the cooled pickles out of the fridge and fry them until they turn a gentle golden brown. Dry them on paper towels, take some selfies with them and tag us on Facebook and Instagram. Your friends will be jealous and I’ll think you are awesome.

When you are all done, the fried pickles will look like this:
