Suddenly you think to yourself: “What am I going to do with this last half of a glass of wine?” Don’t kill that last glass of wine. You aren’t a pig who can drink a whole box in a night, celebrate that wine by making something magnificent with it like this Red Wine Roast Beef.
Red Wine Roast Beef Recipe
This is such an easy recipe to make for a simple dinner. The Red Wine Roast Beef is a twist on a classic roast beef. Watch how we make it with lots of love, butter, and wine in our Traeger Grill. I’ll show you step by step directions below. First, you need to get these ingredients:

- 1 onion
- sage
- beef stock
- butter
- salt
- pepper

How to Make Roast Beef
Roast beef is extremely easy to make. A lot of people will make roast beef in their oven or a crock-pot. I personally like the smoky flavors from smoking the meat, but any of these work. The important thing is to cook it relatively slow until the center is cooked. In the Traeger Grill, I plan on 350 for three hours. The same would work in an oven and I would plan on 5 hours in a crockpot or slow cooker.
Today, I’m demonstrating how to make the Red Wine Roast Beef in a cast iron pan on a smoker.
The first thing you will need to do is take out your cast iron pan and plop your roast right in the middle.
Next, add the butter, wine all the other ingredients. Cover it with tinfoil for a the first hour to let the wine and seasoning really get into the meat.
After the first hour, I uncovered it so that it would start to get nice and smokey. I also added some fresh herbs from our garden.
Let the smoker finish the meat over the next couple of hours. Remember, it is done when the internal temperature reaches 145. My roast looked like this when we got there:
After cooking, it is a good idea to let the meat sit for just a few minutes prior to cutting.
After cutting it into thin slices, please plate it and serve.
